Working as a Ski Instructor in the USA

There are some great resorts to work in, in the USA and many are renowned for their huge snowfalls.  You don’t need to be qualified to work as a Ski Instructor in America and every ski resort will have their own qualification requirements, however, for many of the ski resorts you will need to be aged 18 years and over.

Ski schools will usually fill most of their full time positions with qualified Instructors, so BASI Level 2 instructors will be fine to apply for work.  In peak weeks and at weekends non qualified instructors will usually be taken on to cover the shortfall and will usually cover the children’s programmes.

What other requirements are there to work in the USA?

If you are looking to work for a ski school in the USA you will need to apply for your job and when you have been offered a place the ski school will apply for visa petition on your behalf.  Once the petition has been approved you will be able to make an appointment at the Embassy to obtain your temporary H2 visa.  This visa will only enable you to work for the ski school that applied for your visa petition.

When do I need to start applying for work in the USA?

Usually there is a limited number of H2 visa’s available, so you are advised to start applying for job’s early to enable you to obtain one of these visa’s.  Some ski schools stop accepting applications for work as early as the 1st August, so this is worth baring in mind.
