If you are doing a ski instructor course you also need to think about what to do in the summer
Emotional reunion between Ally and Barney

Emotional reunion between Ally and Barney

What an awesome weekend for the New Gen Summer reunion – we decided it was about time to re-instate the Summer BBQ and figured it was a great chance for our ex gappies to catch up and talk SKI.

Barney and Ally (Gap 2012) had a somewhat emotional reunion, and we teamed up with Harlyn Surf school for a coasteering adventure. 2 hours of rock climbing, jumping, belly flopping (ouch) and just plain falling over followed, though we were all pretty impressed with the 20ft Lion’s head jump which finished us off at the end of the session – fortunately not literally.

Back on the beach we grabbed a cream tea (afterall, when in Cornwall…) and recharged the batteries with a well deserved cup of tea and burger. Just before we could get too comfy in our wetsuits, it was back into the sea again for a surf lesson.

With 1ft offshore waves it was the perfect beginners’ session – and definitely made a change from the powder chasing last time we were all together! Ally gave us a masterclass on the Gnarlaloo – and the brilliant Barney, Gap mentor extraordinare and surf instructor had us all standing up riding the waves.

With only a couple of showers (enough for a rainbow) the evening shaped up nicely. BBQ (vegetarian AND gluten free catered for), a few beers, live music from the Harlyn Inn drifting over the beach and a few games of crotch rocks – ask Barney – we reckon the New Gen summer BBQ is firmly back in the calendar. Looking forward to seeing you all on the hill this winter.
